November Brings Us Good News
We've just hit the 4 month mark since our move here and November has arrived on the back of good news. Firstly Lou got her results back from her recent nurse exam and I'm happy to say she's successfully passed. This means she can now be fully registered in Canada and she will no longer have to work under an interim permit. We had been told the results could take up to 4 - 6 weeks so we were surprised to hear of them so soon and it was nice not having to wait long for them. This will also bring about a slight wage rise for her and a bit more freedom in terms of what she can do as she no longer has to be supervised on certain things (I would be more specific but I don't quite know the exact details myself!).
Also further to that I have now been offered a job at a firm in downtown Vancouver. I had the interview on Wednesday and they called me up on Friday afternoon to offer me the position. For some reason the contract I need to sign contains a stipulation which specifically forbids me to mention the company name on any public domain blog or digital medium (such as facebook) so my hands are tied in terms of what I can tell you! Despite the shrouded information the job isn't anything James Bond-esque, it's a corporate IT job. It seems like a decent place to work at, they're a fast growing company, their offices look nice and it's easy enough to get to via the SkyTrain. I'd had a good feeling about the company since my interview which seemed to go well although it was long (2 hours + 2 tests). All of the staff that I met seem like good people and I already know two cool guys who work there so fingers crossed it will work out well. One thing that I already knew (but which I still find surprising) is that this job will come with only 10 days of annual leave which seems low to me but it is very common for Canadian companies. I presume If I was to need further time off I could probably take it but it would be unpaid. Next year is a 'World Cup' summer and we have a trip back to the UK at some point next autumn pencilled in our diary, we'll see how things go on that front!I start next Monday (9th) and no doubt I'll write on here about how I get on.
