A Westcoast Saturday Afternoon
Yesterday we spent the morning buying more things for our apartment, despite promising ourselves that we wouldn't purchase too much before we moved in! The problem was Sears is/was having a big sale that's only lasting this Saturday and Sunday with up to 50% off on some items (damn I sound like an advert!). We couldn't bare the thought of buying something next week for more money when we could get it cheaper now. So, now I am sitting amongst even more stuff but the good news is that we've got nearly all the things we need for the kitchen. By that I mean we now have all the utensils and appliances except for a set of saucepans (the ones we've seen seem very expensive) and a wok (Lou would like a certain type so we're going to shop around a bit more). All these bags are starting to make the big hotel room look considerably smaller but we're not spending too much time in here so it's not too bad.
In the afternoon we decided to take a walk around Stanley Park and we intended on spending some time at the beach so we caught the Skytrain downtown and headed over that way. However, by the time we got to the verges of Stanley Park we both felt low on energy, I think it was a combination of all the walking we've been doing and the fact it was also very warm. We found a bench in a nice quiet spot next to the sea and decided to watch the world go by for a bit instead, watching the boats sail and the sea planes take off and land. We couldn't help but be mesmerized by the beauty of the city around this area, it really is a nice spot to be in. In the end th
ough we decided not to go walking around (I know and yes I agree - we were a bit lazy), sitting down and relaxing further in the heat made it even harder to muster up the motivation! We're here for the long run though so it felt good that we didn't have to force ourselves to do stuff and fit things in, like we would have had to if we'd been on holiday here.
We decided to go for a scenic walk along Coal Harbour south seawall instead, whilst we were there we went into in the Seawall Bar & Grill and enjoyed a delicious late lunch and a pitcher of the Granville Island Brewery's finest - honey lager. We made our way back to the hotel in the early evening and then spent the rest of the night in the hotel watching TV (the Borat movie, how romantic!). At about 10pm just as the sun was finally disappearing and we were starting to get tired from our day we were suddenly startled back to full alert by the most shocking singing we've ever heard! We then quickly realized that the bar joining on to the hotel has a popular Karaoke night each Saturday, how lovely! I guess we must have been too tired from the traveling to have noticed it when we checked in last week. We were treated to 3 hours of the most dreadful singing ever, fortunately though it was only crystal clear on the really high and off key parts so we still managed to hear the best of it. To be fair to the hotel staff they did offer to move us out and into another room but we have so much stuff in here now it would have been a pain to pack it all up. We decided to mute the TV in the end and have a bit of a giggle to it before shortly managing to fall asleep anyway!
Below are some photos that we took in the afternoon, including our first one together took by a kind lady who definitely would not have been able to run off with our camera!
